I am so glad the thread I started a while ago is still going on. I am noting all your replies and ,incha Allah, I will publish a list of all the tribes when I get all the info checked.
I am also from Sbouya id Yagou and I have close family from Aday (Aday is a mountain in ait Baamrane). My immediate family does not speak Shelha as most of us grew up in Casablanca. Most members of our tribe do speak Shelha that they learned via inter-marriages and close proximity with Souss. The official language, if I'm not mistaken, is "hassania", the accent is on the 'S'. It's a Sahrawi language. I am still trying to find out where this name (Id Yagou) came from. Thank you all. |

I read recently that Ait Baamrane are berbers who were arabized. They are originally from Ifni.
http://www.telquel-online.com/161/images/shema.pdf This does not agree with other sources that claim that they are indeed berbers (Amazigh). I think they are both now. They got mixed with Arabs, Phoenicians, Romans,...and God knows who else as they moved in from the Sahara to the Atlas mountains centuries ago. I know this does not really answer your question or clarify things for you but hopefully it will help you get some answers. I am also from Sbouya and I'd love to find out more about them. There must be some old manuscript (s) somewhere in southern Morocco. that should be our focus to find out more about the subject. Thanks |

I'm too from Id Yagou, Aday (maybe you are my families^^) and i'm surprised to see id yagou don't speak tachelhite because sbouya are in ait baamrane and ait baamrane is chleuh. I want to know our origine are we arabic or chleuh? i read 5 months ago this article and if you want you can read this there is a few information about sbouya http://ouedmerda.free.fr/biblio/tribus_maroc_2.pdf. I stop this conversation now because a i can't speak english lol!! so, i finish with french! ![]() |
