Hassan II foundation becomes IOM observer member

Rabat, June 12 - The Hassan II foundation for Moroccans living abroad has become an observer member of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) at the organization 91st extraordinary session.
The Foundation is the first institution to obtain this status, noted a communiqué of the Foundation, stressing that it aspires to play a more important role in the migration issue and work in coordination with concerned institutions that seek humane and respectful solutions to the migrants dignity.

The 91st IOM session vote reflects the excellent cooperation relations between the Foundation and the IOM, highlighted by the creation in 2003 of the Moroccan Community Living Abroad Observatory "l'Observatoire de la Communauté Marocaine à l’Etranger" (OCME), a body dedicated to look into the conditions of Moroccan community living abroad, noted the communiqué.

A book "Marocains de l’extérieur" (Moroccans living abroad), which is a result of this fruitful cooperation between Moroccan and European experts, aims to shed light on Moroccan community living in six European countries (Germany, Spain, Netherlands, France, Italy, Belgium) social and demographic characteristics, read the communiqué.

Set up in 1990 and chaired by princess Lalla Meryem, sister of king Mohammed VI, Hassan II foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad is a non-benefit institution that aims to reinforce the Moroccans nationals' relations with their homeland and help them overcome the difficulties they encounter.

Among the Foundation main tasks, teaching Arabic language and original culture, organizing cultural trips to Moroccan children, providing humanitarian, social and legal aid and advising the Moroccan nationals who want to invest in Morocco.
