L'anthropologue Katherine Hoffman a passé plus de 3 ans avec les femmes paysannes d'Ida U Zeddout, Arazan, Tazemourt, Touraght, Indouzal en Taroudant. Le resultat est une etude fascinante sur une langue et une culture en voie de disparition sous les effets de l'immigration massive et le manque de scolarisation dans la langue maternelle.

Un constat de l'auteur:

"While mountain women understood their monolinguism as further impending them from joining the march towards prosperity that they thought everyone but them enjoyed, they were paradoxallt crucial agents in the maintainance of Tachelhit, a role that most educated, urbanized, and polyglot amazigh activists could not occupy. Many women I knew in the Anti-Atlas told me that their monolinguism trapped them in the mountains. Yet to men, this further increased women's purity and value, especially for those men familiar with linguistic discrimination who found solace in Tachelhit-dominant mountain spaces. That solace came at a price for the woen maintained the language, the homelands and the moral economy."

D'ailleurs, la femmes bérbère a beaucoup attirer l'attention de plusieurs observateurs ntionaux ou internationaux. Son éducation, ses intérets, ses manipulations quotidiennes et aussi son savoir faire.
C'est une femme courageuse, manifestante et combattante sur tous les niveaux ; social , économique, patrimonial....
c'est elle qui fait d'un homme un homme, et d'une femme une femme.
